SCI Thames and Kennet Regional Group covers what is arguably one of the most economically vibrant regions in the UK.  The region has over 100 universities, further education colleges and research centres.  And is the base of operations in the UK as well as Europe for some of the world's largest pharmaceutical, biotechnology and environmental companies.

The Group is one of the largest geographical groupings in SCI will well over 500 Members employed across the spectrum of applied science industries and academia.

The Group runs a regular and active programme of events catering to both Members' and general public interests.  The Section also organises a number of science theatre-in-education and lecture-demonstration tours to schools in the region.  Past events include David Pybus' lecture on Kodo - the Way of Incense tracing the use of incense through the ages, and Malcolm Armstrong's (the expert behind the spectacular explosive special effects in the James Bond films) lecture-demonstration, Explosives in Parlour and Pantry.

The Group annually awards sixth form students in Oxfordshire and Berkshire who have achieved outstanding academic results in chemistry.
