The SCI Construction Materials Technical Interest Group provides a forum to exchange information for individuals who have an interest in all forms of construction and construction materials.

The Group arranges a regular schedule of meetings, conferences and site visits to examine and discuss all aspects of the construction industry. The aim is to disseminate information to a multidisciplinary audience and encourage an exchange of views between the different disciplines through its programme of events. The subject for the annual December meeting is chosen to be of interest to experts and lay people alike.

Other activities of the Group include:

  • supporting representatives on relevant SCI and external committees, for example British Standards Institution (BSI)
  • offering comment to external organisations

The Group presents the annual Construction Materials Group Award for an outstanding lecture presented at a meeting organised by the Group or to a Member of the Group for meritorious service to the Group . The Young Researchers Award is presented for outstanding papers presented at the occasional young researchers' meeting organised by the Group. There is frequent collaboration with the Institution of Highways and Transportation, the Institute of Asphalt Technology, the Institute of Concrete Technology, the Concrete Society, the Royal Society of Chemistry and the Institute of Materials.
