SCI Health and Safety Technical Interest Group began life as the Industrial Health and Safety Group.  Its original remit was to provide a forum for Members to exchange information, experience and ideas in all aspects of health and safety throughout the chemical and allied industries.

The Group evolved over the years into its present form mirroring the development of health and safety practices and policies.  The Group's remit now covers the issues of work-related accidents, safety, hazards - both manmade and natural - and public health and safety.

The Group organises several joint meetings with other SCI Special Interest Groups and Geographical Sections.  Externally, the Group collaborates regularly with the British Occupational Hygiene Society (BOHS) and the Institute of Chemical Engineering (IChemE).  The Group's Hazard conference series is into its second decade of running.
